The huge doors at the side of the temple opened and out came six huge troll-like creatures, easily eight feet tall and covered in scales. Their jaws opened and a deafening howl came forth shaking the building.

Winston’s men heard it and wondered what the hell it was. Shivers went down their spines. They felt the vibration through the floor as these creatures advanced across the temple floor towards the hall.

The hairs on the back of Jim’s neck went up instinctively but his military discipline made him take careful aim at these beasts and start firing. His well placed bullets took out the eyes on the first one and it lumbered forward uncertain. The other five charged forward.

Zimmermann got his men out of the foyer and across the hall to the entrance of the temple. Winston’s men also managed to quell opposition and were advancing too.

As two men entered the temple crouching low, their eyes went wide and they nearly dropped their weapons as they saw the creatures advancing towards them.

Zimmermann shouted, ‘Open up with the 0.5 on the creatures!’

All the officers were now firing their weapons at revellers who were hiding behind heavy furniture or marble columns, and towards the creatures. Their nine millimetre pistols had no effect. The M16s the SWAT team used were only making the creatures flinch.

The two 0.5 teams opened up and the impact of half inch shells—every sixth round a tracer—began to make a difference.

‘Cut their legs off!’ Zimmermann yelled. Winston’s team also managed to get into the temple and laid down fire on the advancing monsters. A hail of lead succeeded in severing the legs of the closest monster and he crashed to the ground bellowing. Another advanced and walked around the first toppled monster.

Jim kept firing; making sure every round hit in what would normally be a crucial part but still these monsters kept coming.

The ammo box for the heavy machine gun was getting low and one of the officers yelled for more ammo. Concern was coming over the officers now as to whether they would be successful against this horrendous attack. Zimmermann could sense it too and knew that if the backup he expected didn’t come soon, his blood and that of his men might soon be splashed all over the floor.

Suddenly there was an explosion above them followed by three more. Huge chunks of masonry and debris rained down in the temple hitting two of the monstrous creatures and flooring them. Zimmermann looked up and could see a dark hole in the white ceiling of the temple. ......
